Alexander Zverev continued his run at the US Open tennis tournament after overcoming Frenchman Quentin Halys in a marathon five-set match.
Zverev, the tournament's top seed, defeated Halles 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 to reach the third round for the second time in a row after a long match following his marathon encounter with Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the first round.
Zverev spent more than nine hours on the court during his first two matches in the tournament, but he confirmed that he felt physically fit, noting that achieving victory despite not performing at his best was in itself an important skill.
Zverev celebrated in a remarkable way after throwing down his racket and taking off his shirt in a scene that garnered a great deal of interaction across social media.
The French Open champion is aiming to continue his journey towards winning his second Grand Slam title after facing a difficult start in New York.
