According to her, if a person suffers from frequent bouts of herpes, it is important for them to get enough sleep, engage in physical activity, walk outdoors, reduce stress, and also quit bad habits.
The doctor points out that antiviral ointments are most effective at the onset of a rash—when itching, tingling, or swelling is present. Therefore, if blisters have already appeared, it's advisable to avoid this treatment and use drying agents such as powder or zinc oxide ointment. It's also important not to remove any scabs that form.
The doctor warns against using petroleum jelly and other heavy, greasy products, as these can create a moist environment and increase the risk of complications. She advises consulting a doctor if herpes flares occur more than six times a year.
According to her, herpes affects almost everyone, with about 98 percent of the population being infected. Once the virus enters the body, it remains there for life, and symptoms appear at the slightest weakening of the immune system.
