Burhan sends a message to Egypt near the border, requesting two important things for the Sudanese people

On Tuesday, the head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, sent a message of “thanks and reassurance” to Egypt and the Gulf states during his visit to Wadi Halfa in the Northern State.

Al-Burhan told a crowd of residents of the border town with Egypt: “We thank our neighbors in Egypt and assure them that your children here are safe and have no problems,” according to him.

Wadi Halfa is an important trade route between Egypt and Sudan, but trade has recently faced a crisis after Egyptian trucks stopped due to a number of Egyptian truck drivers being shot by a gunman, resulting in the death of two and the injury of a third.

Al-Burhan expressed his hope that trade with Egypt would continue, and that electricity supplies from Egypt to Sudan would continue.

Egyptian authorities had suspended the passage of trucks heading to Sudan through the Qastal land port indefinitely, after an incident in which two drivers were shot dead by a gunman, and a third was injured.

The decision excluded passenger traffic, as buses, private cars and minibuses, as well as individual travelers, are still allowed to cross, without being included in the suspension of truck traffic.
