DPR Meeting between President Prabowo and Singaporean Foreign Minister is part of strategic communication

Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives  Sukamta, assessed that the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan was part of strategic communication between Indonesia and Singapore.

According to him, the two countries have very close ties, both in the economic, investment, defense, and regional stability sectors. Interestingly, he said, the meeting with the President took place at Singapore's request, following bilateral talks between the two Foreign Ministers.

However, as the commission in charge of foreign relations, he has not yet concluded the specific agenda of the meeting because the discussion took place behind closed doors.

In diplomatic relations, Sukamta said such meetings could be an opportunity to discuss issues that require attention and political direction at a higher level.

According to him, the problem of forest and land fires  is certainly an important issue in relations between the two countries, especially since there was previously an agreement to form a joint task force.

He assessed that the meeting had seen significant progress in the two countries' approaches to the issue. He stated that handling forest and land fires is not enough to simply extinguish the fires; it requires investigating those responsible, those profiting from them, and the flow of funds from the companies involved.

"This is where cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore becomes highly relevant. Law enforcement against corporations operating across borders requires the exchange of information, tracing of financial transactions, and cooperation in establishing evidence," said Sukamta.
