US President Donald Trump said Iran may escalate its actions ahead of the US midterm elections on November 3, as Tehran believes such moves could harm Washington.
"They'll probably do a little bit more before the election, thinking it's going to hurt us," Trump said while speaking in Tennessee.

Trump, who was in the Republican-strong state for a campaign rally, said the US could end the confrontation with Iran in a short time.
“But we were able to end it very quickly,” he said, claiming to have exercised restraint against Iran even though he said the Iranian Navy had been destroyed.
“They don’t know how good I’ve been to them,” Trump said, claiming 159 Iranian vessels had been sunk since late February, when the war began.
Trump also touched on the Strait of Hormuz, which is a key point in the conflict.
"We are considering renaming it the Trump Strait," he said.
Trump previously said the war with Iran would likely end as soon as the November 3 midterm elections. The conflict is also a key issue in the elections, which will determine the composition of the US Congress.
Trump did not run in the election, but actively campaigned to help Republican candidates maintain control of one or both chambers of Congress.
The US and Israel declared war on Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks on several areas in the region and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz.
The war, which has lasted more than seven months, has contributed to rising global energy prices because commercial oil shipping traffic through the strategic waterway has almost completely stopped.
The US and Iran signed a framework agreement in June following mediation efforts by Pakistan and Qatar to halt hostilities and pave the way for negotiations. However, implementation of the agreement has stalled due to several differences, including over security and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
