On Wednesday, Ronaldo announced via his Instagram account that he was leaving the national team camp in Denmark following a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, and pledged to reveal the reasons for his departure to the Portuguese people in due course, raising questions about his international future just hours before Portugal faced Denmark in the UEFA Nations League.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Marca", Ronaldo was scheduled to participate in the training session held yesterday, Wednesday, at the "Parken" stadium in Copenhagen, but he left before it started and returned to the team's residence to collect his belongings before heading to Copenhagen airport to board a private plane to Madrid.
The newspaper added that Jesus and Proença followed Ronaldo to the airport in a last-ditch effort to convince him to stay with the national team in Copenhagen, but they were unsuccessful in changing his mind.
Just hours before Ronaldo's departure, Jesus had confirmed that the national team captain would participate in Wednesday's training session, denying any disagreement between them.
The Portuguese coach revealed that he held a private meeting with Ronaldo on Tuesday, following the Al-Nassr striker sitting on the bench during the match against Norway, which Portugal won 2-1 last Sunday.
Jesus added that Ronaldo was angry with him, but stressed that for him it was all in the past and the matter was closed.
