On the anniversary of the Al-Aqsa flood, Netanyahu threatens new assassinations, and Herzog warns of an Israeli split

This came during a ceremony to commemorate the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack, at the Mount Herzl cemetery in occupied Jerusalem, coinciding with the third anniversary of the start of the Israeli genocidal war in Gaza.
On that day, Hamas attacked Israeli military bases and settlements along the Gaza border, killing and capturing Israelis, in response to "the daily crimes of the occupation against the Palestinian people," according to the movement.

Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes in Gaza, claimed that the October 2023 attack "was the opening salvo of the Iranian axis's plan to destroy Israel," according to the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.

With American support, Israel has been waging a war of genocide in Gaza since October 8, 2023, leaving more than 74,000 Palestinian martyrs and more than 175,000 wounded, most of them children and women, and causing destruction to 90 percent of the infrastructure.

Since then, Israel’s aggression has plagued the region, as it has waged two wars on both Lebanon and Iran, in addition to air raids on Yemen and Qatar, as well as ground incursions and almost daily artillery shelling in Syria.

Netanyahu continued: "Thousands of deadly missiles are aimed at our cities and towns, and nuclear bombs are intended to destroy our country and wipe it off the face of the earth."

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a war against Iran, resulting in thousands of deaths. Tehran responded by attacking Israel and what it said were American military installations in countries in the region.

Netanyahu added: "We have turned the tables and removed the immediate danger of the annihilation of our citizens and the destruction of the state. We still have tasks ahead of us, and we are determined to accomplish them."

In 1948, Israel was established on lands occupied by armed Zionist gangs who committed massacres and displaced at least 750,000 Palestinians. Tel Aviv then occupied the rest of the Palestinian territories and refuses to withdraw and allow the establishment of the Palestinian state stipulated in UN resolutions.

Netanyahu added: "There will be no Hamas rule in Gaza, and everyone who was involved in the attack on us and took our hostages is living on borrowed time (their days are numbered), and we are settling accounts day by day."

Since the beginning of the war of extermination, the Israeli occupation army has assassinated many Hamas leaders, both inside and outside the occupied Palestinian territories, through operations that have claimed the lives of civilians.

Israel arrests 15 Palestinians in the West Bank, including two journalists, and closes crossings to coincide with the anniversary of October 7th.

Despite the ceasefire agreement announced on October 10, 2025, Israel continues its genocidal war in Gaza through daily bombings that have killed 1,460 Palestinians and injured 5,116, most of them children and women, in addition to widespread destruction.

Netanyahu addressed the political isolation that Israel is suffering in the world in the wake of the war of annihilation in Gaza, saying: "There are leaders who want to boycott us."

He added: "To these I say: Israel is fighting a war for survival You should be ashamed of your lies," he said.

Netanyahu has headed the current government since late 2022, which is described as the most right-wing in Israel's history, and is on trial domestically on corruption charges that would require his imprisonment if he is convicted.

Internally, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, during his speech at the same ceremony, called for an investigation into the failure of October 7, without explicitly mentioning the phrase "official commission of inquiry".

Netanyahu refuses to form an official commission of inquiry appointed by the Supreme Court into the events of October 7, and denies bearing any responsibility for them.

The opposition, however, insists that he bears some responsibility for what Israel considers the biggest intelligence and military failure in its history, which prompted security officials to resign.

Herzog warned against the consequences of division in Israeli society ahead of the Knesset elections on October 27.

He said: "We also have to face what is happening to us inside the house."

He added: "These days, in the midst of the election campaign, we must look and observe the bright warning lights, those that indicate serious disagreements and deep divisions."

Amid sharp attacks exchanged between the opposition and the ruling coalition, opinion polls show a slight lead for the Jewish opposition bloc over Netanyahu's camp, without a majority to form a government.
