A number of global technology company leaders have expressed the need to slow down the development of AI due to the increasing risks it poses.
OpenAI's Head of Policy Southeast Asia , Sandy Kunvatanagarn, said in a discussion in Jakarta on Wednesday that OpenAI applies a layered security approach in developing AI models and continues to refine it as AI capabilities evolve.
"Security aspects are built into every stage, from how we train AI models, through the post-training phase, to developing various tools and products built on top of those models," he said.
OpenAI also publishes reports and discloses information to help researchers and other institutions understand the capabilities and limitations of the AI models they develop.
In addition, the company uses public input as a support in the AI evaluation and development process.
For example, the company uses community feedback to refine safety aspects when developing products aimed at children and teens.
Sandy said that interactions with communities, including the parent community, can provide insight into public concerns about the use of AI.
"All that to say that the capabilities of these (AI) models are improving very rapidly, and we are refining our security approach in real time ," he said.
