The unmanned robotic assault tank is equipped with an advanced surveillance system. A mushroom-shaped dome with numerous cameras is mounted on its roof, providing a panoramic view of the area for the crew following in a dedicated manned tank, thus enhancing its ability to detect and destroy various targets.
Footage taken inside the unmanned tank revealed a unique capsule-shaped fighting compartment housing an automated loading system. This design solution provides a significantly higher level of ammunition protection.
Also appearing in the exercises for the first time was an unmanned version of the "Spyridon," a combat support vehicle. This offensive machine is equipped with a twin 30mm cannon mount and can be armed with a wide variety of additional weapons. For clearing various obstacles, including engineering structures, barricades, and rubble, the vehicle is fitted with a powerful bulldozer blade.
The first references to the Shturm system date back to 2018, when Uralvagonzavod announced it had begun developing a heavy assault system for urban warfare, drawing on experience gained in Syria. In 2025, the unmanned tank was showcased at an exhibition in the Russian city of Nizhny Tagil.
The tank was equipped with a 125mm short-barreled gun to avoid hitting buildings, a bulldozer blade to overcome rubble, and circular protection devices against anti-tank grenade launchers.
The Shturm cannon has low ballistic characteristics, making it suitable for urban combat at very short ranges. The system can also be equipped with modular rocket flamethrowers and other additional weapons.
The T-72 and T-90 tanks form the basis for the robot. The vehicle can be remotely controlled, with a manned command vehicle of the same type driving behind the unmanned tank, which can be controlled by Russian Raspfit communications satellites, similar to Elon Musk's Starlink system.
