The Ministry of Communication and Digital believes the presence of cheap spectrum will expand the 5G network

The Ministry of Communication and Digital believes that the availability of affordable spectrum can provide a space for expanding telecommunications networks, particularly 5G, throughout Indonesia.

"Spectrum is not just about how the government generates revenue from its use, but also about ensuring spectrum utilization costs remain affordable. This way, all operators can build and develop their infrastructure as quickly as possible," said Ismail, Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, while speaking at the Bali Tech Week (BTW) 2026 event.

Affordable costs can give operators more room to invest and expand network development. At the same time, 5G network development is accelerating, making spectrum availability at an affordable price a crucial factor in supporting the expansion of this next-generation network.

"More than 98 percent of Indonesia's territory is connected to a 4G network. The development of 5G is also progressing very rapidly. Therefore, the frequency spectrum issue is very important," said Ismail.
