The Regional Representative Council and the Riau Islands Provincial Government strengthen disaster management regulations

The Regional Representative Council  of the Republic of Indonesia, together with the Riau Islands Provincial Government  through the local Social Services Agency , is pushing for the strengthening of disaster management regulations and governance that are more responsive to the characteristics of the archipelago.

Dwi Ajeng Sekar Respaty, a member of the Regional Representative Council  from the Riau Islands, who is also a member of the Regional Legislative Affairs Agency  of the DPD RI, emphasized that regional regulations should not stop at normative arrangements, but should also be able to bridge the needs of the community with the government in emergency situations.

"Disaster management regulations must ensure public safety and must not be hampered by ineffective coordination, logistical limitations, or protracted administrative processes," Dwi Ajeng said at a working meeting with the Riau Islands.

According to him, the geographical characteristics of the Riau Islands, which are dominated by maritime areas, limited access to inter-island transportation, and various disaster risks, require logistical readiness, cross-agency coordination, and financing mechanisms that enable aid to be distributed in a timely manner.
