Is it the new Iraq? Is it the new Iraq?

Is it the new Iraq?

Is it the new Iraq?

In conjunction with the results of the Iraqi elections, and until the article was written, there are variables described by media reports as a political earthquake in Baghdad, a setback for those affiliated with Iran in Iraq, and progress for the forces of the Sadrist movement, and other groups.

It is true that there is not a large turnout in the Iraqi elections, but it is hoped that these Iraqi elections will be a consolidation of the foundations of the Iraqi state, and a major step to weaken the forces that are working to weaken Iraq internally and externally.
It was remarkable Muqtada al-Sadr's speech about arms being in the hands of the state, and this is a pivotal issue. It is sufficient to contemplate the situation in Lebanon because of Hezbollah's weapons, which turned the party into a state that abolished the Lebanese state.

With news circulating about the visit of the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards to Baghdad now, and despite the Iranian denial, this constitutes real fears of a repetition of what happened during the Iraqi elections, which Mr. Iyad Allawi won by a vote, and despite that, Nuri al-Maliki was nominated at the time.

At the time, this was done under Iranian pressure and American support from the administration of former US President Barack Obama, and in order to strengthen the Iranian-American negotiations at the time, and all fear that a scene like this day will be repeated, despite the changes produced by the Iraqi elections until the writing of the article.

Therefore, it is hoped that the electoral process and its aftermath will proceed without external interference, whether Iranian or American, and we must pay attention to the threats launched in Iraq with the intent of intimidation to change the announced results.
And in the event that any of these threats occurred, this means that the groups affiliated with Iran decided to confront the Iraqi state, and after they suppressed the activists and all Iraqis who are keen on an independent Iraq and a real state, and this is not excluded from the armed groups affiliated with Iran.

The Iraqi elections clearly tell us that if the elections were fair in the areas of Iranian influence in our region, we would have seen results similar to what happened in Iraq, where the rejection of Iranian influence would be clear and explicit.
Iraq is a model for that rejection of Iranian influence, as activists and the people of Iraq who love their country gave their lives to defend their country against Iranian influence, and for Iraq to be a state of law, not a state of militias, like Lebanon or Syria.
So the question now is: Are we facing a new Iraq? The answer will be clear after the selection of the three main positions there: the presidency of Iraq, the parliament, and the presidency of the Council of Ministers. Then we will know if we are facing a new Iraq or not.
Then we will know if Iraq can continue to complete what the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi started, who has fulfilled all his pledges and succeeded in making Iraq an active member in its surroundings recently.

This is what the devotees of Iraq wish for, not out of political bias, or otherwise, but according to a simple concept that Iraq’s internal stability will make it a state that contributes to the consolidation of the desired stability in the region, as it means the state’s victory over the militias, and this is the supreme goal.(Tariq Al Hamid, A Saudi journalist and writer and former editor-in-chief of Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper)
