Surabaya (ANTARA) - As many as 200 preachers, preachers, and representatives of Islamic organizations attended a gathering at Surabaya City Hall, East Java, Thursday, to commit to fighting intolerance and radicalism.
"This gathering is to strengthen Wasathiyah Islam to realize a peaceful Indonesia and love the homeland," said Kanit I Counter Ideology of the Prevention Directorate of Densus 88 AT Polri AKBP Moh. Dofir in his speech.
The gathering this time was held by the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Police in synergy with the Ministry of Religion, Ministry of Home Affairs, Surabaya City Government, and other agencies.
According to Dofir, radicalism is a fertile ground for the development of terrorism crimes and one of the indicators that become the seeds of radicalism, namely intolerance.
"Intolerance is a form of denial of diversity and is against the values of Pancasila and civilized religious norms," he said.
Dofir said that one of the very basic things to fight terrorism and radicalism is to develop an attitude of tolerance and eliminate group exclusivity.
He stated that the strategy for counter-radicalism is the general public, students, and community leaders with the aim of instilling Indonesian values and values of peace.
"The strategy to prevent intolerance can be a tolerance campaign, fostering an integrated tolerance attitude and instilling the noble values of the Pancasila ideology and literacy culture," he said.
Efforts to prevent radicalism independently by instilling a spirit of nationalism, open-mindedness and tolerance, being alert to provocation and incitement, are tiered in the peace community.
"This activity is very strategic because it is the preachers and preachers who are directly involved in the community to invite all levels of society children nations everywhere have the courage to firmly prevent the notion of intolerance and radicalism," said Dofir.
Therefore, said Dofir, all elements of society must have the same duties and responsibilities to build a life with wasyatiyah space, tolerance space, and mutual respect that must continue together.
"If the preachers do not have control in delivering the material, it becomes a serious threat to the country," he said.
Therefore, Dofir reminded the central role of Friday preachers as agents of moderate religious narratives that preachers have the authority to advise and direct Friday congregations to avoid thoughts and behaviors that injure religious brotherhood, national brotherhood, and human brotherhood.
"So it is very effective in suppressing hoax news in the media, hate speech, and fighting between fellow elements of the nation,"
The event was attended by the Regional Secretary of the City of Surabaya Hendro Gunawan, the Head of the Surabaya Ministry of Religion Office and the Surabaya Forkopimda. The event continued with the presentation of material from UIN Professor Sunan Ampel Nur Syam, Rais Syuriah PWNU East Java, and UNISKA Kediri Chancellor Ali Maschan Moesa, and former terrorist convict Miftahul Munif.
