Jakarta (ANTARA) - The civil society organization Migrant CARE has highlighted the recent cases of human trafficking, for example cases of human trafficking through formal channels, rejecting the notion that many cases tend to occur through non-procedural channels.
"So far, it is often misleading that the unprocedural is the trafficker ," said CARE Migrant Migration Study and Study Center Chair Anis Hidayah during a discussion on the Situation of Trafficking in Persons in Indonesia, at the United States Embassy (US Embassy), Jakarta, Wednesday.
He explained that a number of cases handled by Migrant CARE were cases that did not only come from non-procedural pathways, but also through procedures that were in accordance with procedures.
He gave an example of the recruitment mode for prospective migrant workers which is carried out through the Special Job Exchange (BKK) in SMK.
"So this is a program of cooperation between the government and the government. But there are so many victims of trafficking ," he said.
Then, another human trafficking case that he highlighted was the case that occurred through the umrah or hajj mode. Many of these cases occur in migrant workers working in Saudi Arabia.
Next is the mode of sending migrant workers to conflict countries, the mode of student apprenticeship programs that are common in Malaysia, the fraudulent mode of scholarships to Taiwan and Japan, as well as the mode of recruitment of migrant domestic workers.
Furthermore, Anis also underlined the case of trafficking in persons which was intensively carried out through a coalition of two syndicates, namely drugs and trafficking .
"So if you can imagine that women in Indonesia have faced situations like that (acts of violence), then met with syndicates, and it's not only trafficking syndicates but also drug syndicates," he said.
Furthermore, Anis also mentioned the supply of undocumented migrant workers that are common in Malaysia, as well as cases of placement of crew members (ABK), especially crew members on fishing vessels, as well as cases of human trafficking that occurred as a result of the impact of the moratorium on 19 countries in Indonesia.
