Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo received the "Global Citizen Award" from the US think tank, the Atlantic Council, for his leadership on the world stage.
In his remarks broadcast via video message at the award ceremony in New York on Monday (19/9), President Jokowi said that he dedicate this award to all the people of Indonesia.
"President Joko Widodo is the embodiment of the spirit that Indonesia wants to project to the world, namely the paradigm of collaboration, bridge-builder , and being part of the solution," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi who represented the President of the Republic of Indonesia to receive the award. delivered in a written statement, Tuesday.
Jokowi was honored for his leadership as President of the G20, his efforts to bridge the impact of the war in Ukraine, and broad support for advancing the fulfillment of human rights, democracy, and a better global health architecture.
“It is an honor for me to introduce President Joko Widodo. Starting his career as a businessman, then becoming the Mayor of Surabaya, President Joko Widodo entered the political realm to serve his people, working with his people," said WEF Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab.
“Indonesia's presidency at the G20 occurs at a time when the world is faced with multidimensional challenges, and therefore requires leaders who have extraordinary abilities, leaders who want the trust of all parties. President Jokowi is not only a leader of the Indonesian people, but a leader who has a global vision, promoting world peace and prosperity," said Schwab, adding.
The awarding of the "Global Citizen Award" is an annual event held by the Atlantic Council on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Awards are given to figures who are considered to have made a real contribution to the world. A number of world figures who have received the award include the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, former South Korean President Moon Jae-in, and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
In addition to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the 2022 "Global Citizen Award" was also awarded to Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, as well as actor and UNESCO's Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation Forest Whittaker.
