Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar emphasized Indonesia's seriousness in dealing with climate change issues by confirming Indonesia's Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030.
"Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 is a declaration of achieving reduced greenhouse gas emissions. the forestry sector and other land uses, where absorption levels are balanced or even higher than the emission levels of related sectors in 2030," he said in a statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday.
Today, Minister Siti paid a working visit to attend the 2030 FOLU Net Sink Sub-National Socialization Kick Off in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara.
He said the FOLU Net Sink 2030 is an implementation agenda of climate mitigation and adaptation that is designed in relation to forests and land.
The agenda also includes forestry activities and community participation, such as customary forests and mangroves with silvo-fisheries or ecotourism as well as monitoring deforestation from peat (decomposition and fire), increasing the capacity of natural forests to reduce degradation and increase regeneration, restoration and management of peat water, restoration and forest rehabilitation, sustainable forest management, to optimizing productive land and law enforcement.
In 2022, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has carried out various activities to accelerate the implementation of Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030, including the preparation of work plans and sub-national outreach involving various stakeholders at the district to provincial levels.
This year's agenda is in the form of disseminating information on Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 program to the site level in 22 provinces.
"This socialization event is the first step in preparing Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 Sub-National Work Plans in 22 Provinces to detail Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 Operational Plans to become mitigation action targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions at the provincial level down to the site level," explained Minister Siti.

"I hope that all of Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 Sub-National Work Plans can be completed by May this year and can provide a better future for the Earth and future generations," said Minister Siti.
East Nusa Tenggara Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat emphasized his commitment to support Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 program which was initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
He said the Provincial Government of East Nusa Tenggara has currently produced 2.5 million bamboo seedlings and planted bamboo on an area of 1,300 hectares in an effort to support Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 program through bamboo agroforestry.
