Argentine Foreign Minister: There is an ideological component in our rejection of the BRICS group

Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino admitted that the government of President Javier Miley was partly guided by ideological considerations during its refusal to join the BRICS group.
The minister added, while responding to a journalist’s question about whether refusing to join this organization was an ideological or practical decision: “Both, but it is mostly practical.”

According to her, the main motivation for her country's authorities taking this decision was the desire to "optimize the use of time." “If you participate in all the organizations, when will you do the work?” she said.

Mondino emphasized that Argentina's new leadership gives priority to "liberal democracies" in its partnerships. Among them are the United States, European countries, Australia, Israel, Canada and New Zealand, but it did not rule out the possibility of developing trade and economic relations with other countries.

The minister said: “We will trade with whoever pays the most. This decision will not be taken by the state. Our mission is to create conditions for trade.”

Earlier, the Infobae news website said that Argentine President Javier Miley rejected the invitation for his country to become a member of the BRICS group.

The article published by the site stated: “ A few days ago, Xavier Maile sent official letters to the leaders of the BRICS countries , in which he announced Argentina’s withdrawal from the BRICS multilateral forum.”
