CNN reported that the area of the ongoing Smokehouse Creek forest fire in the US state of Texas amounted to about 344 thousand hectares, as it spread to the territory of the neighboring state of Oklahoma.
The channel reported on local fire services that “the largest Smokehouse Creek fire (among the fires currently burning in Texas) covered an area of about 344,000 hectares and also extended to Oklahoma, where, as of Wednesday afternoon, it had destroyed about 13,000 hectares.”
She added that so far only 3% of the fire has been contained.
Earlier, Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of emergency in 60 areas of the state due to devastating forest fires.
On Wednesday, American media reported that the area of the Smokehouse Creek fire exceeded 200,000 hectares. CNN said that this fire is the second largest in Texas history.
