Colombian President Gustavo Petro issued a decision to open an embassy for his country in Ramallah in the occupied Palestinian territories, coinciding with three European countries announcing their official recognition of the State of Palestine.

Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Murillo confirmed to reporters on Wednesday that President Petro had issued instructions to "open a Colombian embassy in Ramallah" in the occupied West Bank.

It is noteworthy that President Petro, who is considered one of the harshest critics of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, considers the Israeli war in Gaza a "genocide."

This announcement comes on the same day that three European countries announced their recognition of a Palestinian state, more than seven months after the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

Earlier on Wednesday, Norway, Ireland and Spain simultaneously announced, in response to a political campaign led by Madrid, officially recognizing the State of Palestine in accordance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.

According to the governments of the three countries, the resolution will enter into force on May 28, granting Palestine all rights and duties as an independent state.

The decision comes more than 7 months after a fierce Israeli war against the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the martyrdom of tens of thousands of civilians, the majority of whom were women and children, in addition to major destruction of infrastructure and major facilities.
