Ministry of Industry believes jewelry industry can support national economy

Jakarta - The Ministry of Industry stated that the domestic jewelry industry can support the advancement of the national economy, considering that the sector has high added value and competitiveness.

The Director General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita in Jakarta, Wednesday stated that this optimism arose considering that the export value of Indonesian jewelry and valuables in December 2024 reached 435 million US dollars or IDR 7.1 trillion

This figure increased by 17.9 percent on a monthly basis and if accumulated throughout 2024, the export value of jewelry and valuables will reach 5.5 billion US dollars or Rp. 89.7 trillion.

"We are highly optimistic about increasing jewelry industry exports in 2025, with the hope that global economic conditions will improve," said Reni.

Furthermore, the Director General of IKMA explained that the jewelry industry is currently undergoing a transformation along with changes in lifestyle, technology, and global market trends.

A growing trend in the jewelry industry includes the use of minimalist designs and technological touches such as 3D printing, which allows manufacturers to create jewelry that looks luxurious but is lighter in weight.

This technology also encourages product personalization according to the tastes and needs of consumers, especially the younger generation.

"Jewelry is no longer only used for certain celebratory events, but has also become part of everyday lifestyle. Therefore, jewelry design continues to develop, following market demand that leads to more minimalist, functional, and elegant designs," said Reni.

According to him, the jewelry industry has great market potential because it is supported by the creativity of craftsmen who are able to produce various products following market trends.

As a form of support for the domestic jewelry industry, the Ministry of Industry through the Directorate General of IKMA continues to support collaboration between IKM actors, local designers, academics, and other stakeholders.

One of the strategic efforts made by the Ministry of Industry is to support the implementation of an international jewelry trade exhibition, namely the Jakarta International Jewellery Fair (JIJF) 2025.
