Jakarta - Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia scored the only goal to help his team win 1-0 at Heideinheim on Saturday, keeping alive their hopes of retaining their German League title.
The win took Leverkusen to 62 points, six behind leaders Bayern Munich. As for Heidenheim, the defeat made it difficult for them to get out of the red zone and kept them in 16th place with 22 points, according to the official Bundesliga website.
Bayern Munich won 3-1 at Augsburg in the early hours of Saturday.
Leverkusen, who were knocked out of the German Cup by third division team Arminia Bielefeld on Tuesday (1/4), need a win to stay close to Bayern.
Xabi Alonso's side looked out of ideas when it came to attacking bottom side Heidenheim, with Florian Wirtz's injury lacking any creativity in attack.
However, as is often the case with the Spaniard's side, Leverkusen scored in the dying stages, with Buendia's strike from outside the box in the 91st minute.
The goal was Buendia's first since joining on loan from Aston Villa and could prove crucial as Leverkusen look to catch injury-hit Bayern with six games remaining in the Bundesliga season.
