"Of course it's not easy to control the tires, but I'm really happy. It was quite difficult at the beginning of this weekend, but we didn't give up. We kept improving the car and today it was in the best condition," Verstappen was quoted as saying on the Formula 1 website, Monday.

The Dutch rider secured pole at the Japanese GP, and Verstappen said his pole position helped him to victory.

"Of course, starting from pole position is absolutely possible to win this race," said Verstappen.

Despite winning, Verstappen emphasized that the competition in this race was very tight, especially as he was continuously being followed by the McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
