Observers say combination of TKDN and incentives to attract investment

Telecommunications observer Heru Sutadi said that Indonesia has a great opportunity to become a regional production center in the manufacturing and technology sectors, as long as it is able to maintain a balance between protective policies and investment stimulus.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirement, while balancing it with intelligently designed and measurable incentives.

"If the TKDN obligation is removed, foreign companies such as mobile phone manufacturers will have no reason to build factories in Indonesia. They will tend to make Indonesia only a market, not a production center. This could certainly make us lose investment opportunities and jobs," Heru said when contacted.
