Reduce the risk of diabetes complications by controlling blood sugar levels

Internal medicine specialist from the Seribu Islands Regional General Hospital, Dr. Nur Rahmah Oktariani Sp.PD, conveyed the importance of controlling blood sugar levels in an effort to reduce the risk of complications due to diabetes.

In a discussion event on diabetes that was attended online from Jakarta on Monday, he said that people who have been diagnosed with diabetes are advised to regularly check their blood sugar levels.

The Chronic Disease Management Program or Prolanis run by the Social Security Administering Agency (BPJS) Health can be used to obtain services for checking blood sugar levels, body mass index, blood pressure, kidney function, and liver function.

"If you have diabetes, almost all of our organs can be affected by complications, it can attack the kidneys, it can affect the skin, and in the long term it can cause strokes, heart disease, and also complaints related to the nerves, numbness, tingling and others, it can also affect the eyes," said Dr. Nur.

"If blood sugar levels are controlled, we hope that the complications and accompanying complaints can also be controlled well, although the possibility of them disappearing completely is small, because if they appear, they will continue to appear," he added.
