The European Union does not welcome participation in the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow

European Union foreign policy chief Kaya Kallas said at a press conference in Luxembourg that the EU has informed countries planning to participate in the May 9 parade in Moscow that it "does not welcome their participation."

"It was very clearly stated by the member states at the ministerial meeting that there would be no European participation in the May 9 parade or celebrations in Moscow," Kallas said.

Kallas added that it was also made clear to EU candidate countries that their participation in the Moscow events was not welcome, stressing, "We (the EU) do not want any of the candidate countries to participate in these events in Moscow."

On May 9, Russia celebrates the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War (World War II).
