Jakarta - Bayern Munich legend Thomas Mueller confirmed on Saturday that Bayern will not offer him a new contract, ending his 25-year career with the German giants at the end of this season.
"The special relationship with the club and our fantastic fans will last forever," Mueller told Bayern's website on Saturday.
The 35-year-old's contract expires this summer and he said on social media that the club's decision was not something he expected.
Mueller is a product of Bayern's youth academy and has led Bayern to two Champions League titles and 12 Bundesliga titles.
The focus now is on bringing the Bundesliga title back to Munich and reaching the Champions League final. This year's Champions League final will be held at Bayern's home ground, the Allianz Arena.
On Saturday afternoon, Bayern announced that they would pay tribute to Mueller by holding a testimonial match, and that the player would feature for Bayern in the Club World Cup in July.
