Jakarta - The colonoscopy method is a crucial step in early detection of colon cancer by inserting an endoscopic tube through the anus to examine the surface of the intestine.
Through a colonoscopy, the doctor can take a sample or biopsy of the cancerous mass. The sample is then examined in a laboratory to determine the type of cancer and its genetic mutations.
"Colon cancer is a cancer that grows in the large intestine area. It does not appear suddenly but rather a process. Most of it originates from small polyps and continues to grow experiencing genetic mutations, until finally the tumor growth is uncontrolled and becomes malignant," said internal medicine specialist at Siloam MRCCC Semanggi Hospital, dr. Randy Adiwinata, Sp.PD, in a press release, Monday.
