Jakarta - A Japanese startup will launch an all-terrain electric wheelchair in 2026 that will allow users to go up and down stairs and board trains and buses without assistance, with plans to develop a model that can be used on escalators.
Quoted from Kyodo, Sunday (6/4) local time, the wheelchair developed by Lifehub Inc. usually runs on four wheels on flat surfaces, but is equipped with caterpillar-shaped tracks to navigate stairs, slopes and uneven surfaces.
The company’s Avest wheelchair can adjust the seat angle to go up and down stairs with an incline of up to 40 degrees, according to Lifehub. It has a range of up to 40 kilometers on a single charge.
