This came in a speech he delivered on Wednesday during the second trilateral summit meeting between Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan, attended by his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in the city of Lachin, in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Aliyev stressed the importance of holding the summit on the anniversary of Azerbaijan's independence and the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh from Armenia, describing it as having "strong symbolic significance."
He stressed the importance of the cultural, historical and value-based ties that unite Azerbaijan, Turkey and Pakistan.
The Azerbaijani president appreciated the political and moral support provided by Türkiye and Pakistan to his country during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, reaffirming the solidarity between the peoples of the three countries.
On September 27, 2020, the Azerbaijani army launched an operation to liberate its occupied territories in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. After 44 days of fighting, Azerbaijan and Armenia reached a ceasefire agreement, stipulating that Baku would regain control of the occupied provinces.
The Azerbaijani president also stated that, thanks to the strategic location and economic potential of the three countries, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Pakistan have extensive investment opportunities based on common interests.
He added that Azerbaijan is investing $20 billion in the Turkish economy and is preparing to invest $2 billion in Pakistan soon.
He added that Baku, Ankara, and Islamabad play a strategic role at the regional and global levels regarding energy security.
He continued, "Thanks to Azerbaijani-Turkish cooperation, the energy map has changed across a wide geographic area, not just ours. We have embarked on major projects in the field of renewable energy production and export."
On the defense front, Aliyev said that joint defense projects between Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Pakistan contribute to strengthening the capabilities of their armed forces.
He continued, "Joint military exercises and technical projects enhance the strength of our armies. This cooperation between us also contributes to promoting peace and stability in other geographic regions."
Regarding the Pakistani-Indian tension, the Azerbaijani president said that they had clearly declared Baku's solidarity with Islamabad from the first day of the crisis.
He stressed that Baku supports a peaceful resolution to the crisis between Pakistan and India, in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
