The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has formulated adjustments to the income threshold for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) abroad to ensure they can access subsidized housing facilities specifically for PMI.
According to BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti in Subang Regency, West Java, Thursday, if it is not adjusted, PMI will not be able to get subsidized housing.
"If converted to rupiah, their income could exceed the maximum limit required to purchase a subsidized house," said the Head of BPS in his remarks at the launch of the Housing Program for PMI.
For this reason, the party decided to use the Jabodetabek area as a reference, with figures in the range of IDR 12 million to IDR 14 million.
"Next, we calculate the purchasing power parity between Indonesia and the migrant's country of placement," he said.
To equalize the value of IDR 14 million which is the threshold to the Malaysian ringgit, for example, the party converted it using the purchasing power parity (PPP) conversion value between Indonesia and Malaysia.
"So, the standard of Rp. 14 million is equivalent to around 3,000 Malaysian ringgit," said Amalia.
