Brazil appoints Carlo Ancelotti as new coach

Carlo Ancelotti has been appointed as the new coach of the Brazil national team and will soon lead the five-time World Cup winners in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with the next matches against Ecuador and Paraguay in June.

The Samba team is now in fourth place in the qualifying standings with 21 points, 10 points behind Argentina at the top. After two games in June, they still have two more games to play in September against Chile and Bolivia.

"The greatest national team in the history of football will now be led by the most successful coach in the world. Carlo Ancelotti, who is synonymous with historic achievements, was announced this Monday (12/5) by CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues," wrote the official Instagram of the Brazilian national team, Monday.

The Athletic reports Ancelotti will start work on May 26, the day after he takes charge of Real Madrid's final La Liga match against Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Athletic previously reported that the 65-year-old had reached an agreement with Madrid over the terms of his departure.
