The Badminton World Federation (BWF) responded and acknowledged that there was an error in the referee's decision in the match between Indonesian mixed doubles pair Rinov Rivaldy/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja against Danish pair Jesper Toft/Amalie Magelund at the 2025 Sudirman Cup.
This admission was conveyed by BWF in a reply letter to PBSI, which had previously submitted a request for an investigation into the incident at a crucial point in the first game of the match to determine the Group D champion.
"BWF acknowledged the Hong Kong referee's mistake when he declared the shuttlecock hit Rinov's racket at 21-22 which caused Indonesia's defeat in the first game," said Head of Public Relations and Media of PP PBSI Yuni Kartika in a written statement.
Yuni added that the BWF said the decision was taken by the referee in good faith and without any bad intentions, although slow-motion replays showed an error in judgment.
"BWF continues to take the performance of the referees and all technical officials seriously. BWF will then submit this case to the refereeing panel to determine the next steps," said Yuni.
