Clinical psychologist Phoebe Ramadina, M.Psi., Psychologist said that early marriage carries the risk of triggering mental health disorders.
"The risk of mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and severe stress, especially when accompanied by unhealthy relationship dynamics, domestic violence, economic difficulties, and unplanned pregnancies," said the psychologist who graduated from the University of Indonesia when contacted.
The psychologist who practices at the Personal Growth psychology consulting institute said that early marriage also robs children of their right to grow and develop optimally.
According to him, obligations in marriage often hinder children from going through development phases appropriate to their age, such as continuing their education, building self-identity, and developing their full potential.
"This has long-term impacts on children's psychosocial well-being and risks reinforcing cycles of inequality within families and communities," he said.
