Turkish Foreign Ministry sources reported that Fidan will meet on Thursday, May 8, with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Kallas, foreign ministers of EU member states, and foreign ministers of EU candidate countries.
On August 29, 2024, Fidan participated in an event held in Brussels on the occasion of the informal meeting of European Union foreign ministers, after a five-year hiatus. His participation came at the invitation of what was considered at the time an attempt by the European Union to revive relations with Türkiye.
The upcoming meeting in Warsaw holds particular significance in terms of strengthening dialogue channels between Türkiye and the European Union and taking concrete steps in bilateral relations, including Türkiye's accession process.
The meeting is expected to witness an exchange of views on current challenges facing European foreign and security policy, most notably enhancing the ability to counter hybrid threats.
According to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources, Fidan is expected to emphasize the importance of strategic cooperation between NATO and the European Union regarding European security during the meeting.
He will also stress the need to enhance coordination and cooperation between Türkiye and the European Union in confronting hybrid threats, and to develop mechanisms for exchanging information between the two sides.
Among the issues the Turkish minister is expected to raise at the meeting is terrorism and its role in creating hybrid threats and undermining international security.
Fidan will also emphasize that Türkiye's counterterrorism efforts contribute to maintaining stability across the region, and that Türkiye expects tangible and effective support from its allies and partners.
Türkiye is also expected to convey its expectation during the meeting that the European Union will take concrete steps to sustainably strengthen relations between Türkiye and the EU.
Fidan will also hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the meeting.
