Indonesia and Slovakia aim to realize inclusive AI governance

The governments of the Republic of Indonesia and Slovakia are exploring opportunities to build an alliance to realize inclusive global artificial intelligence (AI) governance ahead of the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) Summit in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Opportunities for cooperation between the two countries to realize inclusive AI governance were discussed in a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital of the Republic of Indonesia, Nezar Patria, and the Slovak Ambassador to Indonesia, Tomas Ferko, at the Office of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Central Jakarta, Friday (23/5).

"We are aware of the gap in AI development between North and South countries, so we don't want to just be users, we want to go far to become significant AI developers," Nezar was quoted as saying in a press statement from the ministry in Jakarta, Saturday.

The GPAI Summit will be held on 25-26 November 2025.

Indonesia, which is in the process of accession to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development ( OECD ), was invited to participate in the AI forum.

Nezar said that Slovakia was one of the pioneers in drafting the OECD AI principles, which are now a global reference.

"This collaboration is very important for Indonesia, which is finalizing national AI regulations," said Nezar regarding the planned collaboration with Slovakia.
