Real Madrid reportedly wants to immediately inaugurate Xabi Alonso as coach and Trent Alexander-Arnold as a player before they play in the Club World Cup in mid-June.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Alonso has agreed to Madrid's wishes as the Bayer Leverkusen coach is "ready to get to work immediately".
"Real Madrid always planned to have Xabi Alonso as their manager at the Club World Cup… and they also wanted Trent Alexander-Arnold to be there," the Italian journalist wrote, as quoted from his official X account, Monday.
Madrid will play in the Club World Cup after they finish this season in what is likely to be a trophyless one. Madrid have three games left in La Liga, but their hopes of retaining the title are all but over as they trail Barcelona by seven points at the top of the table.
In the upcoming Club World Cup, Madrid is in Group H. Los Blancos are grouped with Saudi Arabian representatives Al-Hilal, Mexican representatives Pachuca, and German representatives RB Salzburg.
