UEC asks UEFA to increase payments to non-elite clubs.

Football lobby group, Union of European Clubs (UEC), has asked UEFA to set aside five percent of its annual club competition revenue of 3.7 billion pounds (around 4.9 billion US dollars) to fund the Player Development Reward (PDR) program.

Quoted from The Athletic, it is intended to address the competitive imbalance that is likely to occur. The PDR program is also proposed to provide incentives to European clubs that contribute to the development of star players.

The PDR will distribute funds based on the playing minutes and prize money earned by players trained by these clubs in UEFA competitions.

However, the 36 teams that qualify for the Champions League group stage will not receive this payment, given that they already receive large sums of money from the competition's prize pool.

If applied last season, almost 1,500 clubs would have received PDR payments, including more than 400 clubs potentially receiving more than 100,000 euros (Rp1.63 billion) each.

Ajax Amsterdam are expected to be the biggest recipients with more than £4.5m, while Schalke, Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting Lisbon will each receive almost £3m. English club Chelsea are expected to receive more than £2.7m.
