The Communication and Aspiration Forum of Members of the Indonesian House of Representatives and Regional Representatives Council from the Papua region in the MPR RI suggested that the government stop the security approach by deploying TNI-Polri officers in handling the conflict problem in Papua.
Deputy Chairman of the DPD RI Yorrys Raweyai said that the suggestion was conveyed after seeing the condition of the armed conflict in Papua in the last few months. According to him, the deployment of officers in Papua has not been a solution to reduce the escalation of the conflict.
"There were victims from the TNI and police, there were victims from the community, and we received quite a lot of reports," said Yorrys at the parliament complex.
He said the conflict in Papua is not a new problem because it has been going on for almost 70 years. He considered that the conflict in Papua was not only triggered by development or economic aspects, but also because of political problems.
In this way, according to him, all parties need to have the same perception in taking steps to resolve the Papua problem.
