A warm moment was created when Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the arrival of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) yard, Kuala Lumpur.
According to information received on Monday, as soon as he got out of the car, Prabowo was immediately greeted by Anwar with a broad smile and a firm handshake.
There is no impression of stiffness or excessive protocol, what is apparent is the closeness of two old friends who are reunited in a major mission, namely strengthening solidarity in the Southeast Asian region.
The two stood side by side, posing for a photo with the 46th ASEAN Summit logo and the iconic Petronas Twin Towers in the background. A symbol of friendship that is not only diplomatically important, but also personally touching.
The relationship between the two has indeed been established long before they became leaders of the country. In Anwar's difficult times, Prabowo was one of the loyal friends who visited him. The old story has now transformed into a new chapter of cooperation between the two related countries.
After the welcoming ceremony, Prabowo stepped into the main hall of the meeting to attend the Plenary Session of the 46th ASEAN Summit which began at 09.00 local time.
This year's forum carries the theme Inclusivity and Sustainability , an important message about the need for inclusive and sustainable collaboration amidst increasingly complex global challenges.
As usual, the opening ceremony began with a photo session with the heads of state and government from the ten ASEAN member countries, plus Timor Leste as a prospective member.
Afterwards, the leaders took their seats to follow the official agenda which was opened directly by Anwar.
Prabowo was seen present with a number of Red and White Cabinet officials, including Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
