Putin stresses importance of relations with China, Xi praises Russia's role in "confronting authoritarianism and hegemony"

"We are developing our relations for the benefit of the peoples of both countries, not against anyone," Putin added at the start of talks in Moscow, where Xi Jinping is visiting to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany.

For his part, Chinese President Xi Jinping affirmed Beijing's support for Russia in confronting "hegemonic authoritarianism" during his meeting with his counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday.

"In the face of the counter-tide of unilateralism and hegemonic bullying, China will work with Russia to shoulder the responsibilities of major international powers," he said.
