Regularly drinking black coffee is good for controlling blood sugar levels

The results of a study published in Nutrients show that drinking two cups of coffee every day is associated with slightly better glucose metabolism compared to not drinking coffee at all.

According to the results of a study quoted in an Eatingwell broadcast drinking up to one cup of black coffee every day was significantly associated with better glucose metabolism based on levels of markers such as HOMA-IR (insulin resistance) and fasting insulin.

However, drinking coffee with sugar or cream showed no clear benefit based on these markers, suggesting that plain black coffee may have some positive effects on how the body processes sugar.

The analysis showed differences between men and women. In women, drinking two or more cups of coffee per day, especially black coffee, was associated with better levels of health markers related to blood sugar regulation, meaning their blood sugar and insulin levels appeared to be better controlled.

For example, women who drank two or more cups of coffee were less likely to have problems with insulin resistance and increased fasting insulin compared to those who didn't drink coffee at all. The association was stronger with black coffee.

However, in men or individuals who added sugar or cream to their coffee, such benefits were not observed.

This suggests that how coffee is consumed and individual differences, such as gender, may play a role in its potential effects on health.

However, the study has some limitations. Because it is a cross-sectional study , it cannot be determined whether coffee drinking habits and better glucose metabolism are cause and effect.
