Saudi Foreign Minister: We emphasized to Trump the necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza and the establishment of a Palestinian state.

This came at a press conference held by the Saudi Foreign Minister in Riyadh following the conclusion of the Gulf-US summit attended by Trump.

Bin Farhan noted the importance of reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza as soon as possible, expressing hope that the release of Israeli-American prisoner Idan Alexander would contribute to progress on this issue.

Hamas announced on Monday the release of Israeli-American soldier Idan Alexander, following contacts with Washington as part of ceasefire efforts.

The Saudi minister added that his country emphasized to the US president the need to halt the Israeli genocide in Gaza and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the territory, in addition to supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He explained that the Israeli occupation is primarily responsible for obstructing the entry of relief aid into Gaza.

Separately, Bin Farhan revealed that US President Trump met today with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, in the presence of the Saudi Crown Prince and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan via telephone. They discussed ways to support Syria's stability and overcome its challenges, stressing that the meeting was fruitful.

It's worth noting that Trump is conducting a visit to the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, which began Tuesday and will continue until May 16. This is his first visit to the region since the beginning of his second term in January.

With full American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 172,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing.
