After the 4 island dispute, Aceh Governor meets Jusuf Kalla

Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf revealed his plan to meet with the 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla, after resolving the conflict on four islands in the border region of Aceh and North Sumatra Provinces.

"Maybe there is. Yes, yes, we can schedule it," said Muzakir, after a press conference on resolving the conflict over the four islands at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, responding to news of his meeting with Jusuf Kalla on Tuesday afternoon.

When asked about the topic of his conversation with Jusuf Kalla, Muzakir mentioned a number of technical matters that could not be revealed to the public.

"Yes, there may be several things. Because those who will meet later include related parties," he said.

President Prabowo Subianto has made a decision that Panjang Island, Lipan, Mangkir Gadang, and Mangkir Ketek are part of the Aceh Province.

Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian said the decision was taken based on the findings of an important document, the Decree of the Minister of Home Affairs (Kepmendagri) Number 111 of 1992, which was signed on November 24, 1992, which became a strong legal basis.

As previously reported, Jusuf Kalla (JK), emphasized that formally and historically, the four islands are part of the Aceh region, specifically Aceh Singkil Regency.

JK linked the status of the islands to the results of peace negotiations between the Indonesian Government and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) in Helsinki in 2005.

In the negotiations, it was agreed that the boundaries of Aceh would refer to Law Number 24 of 1956, which expressly established Aceh Province as an autonomous region and separated it from North Sumatra Province.
