Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, asked the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police to thoroughly investigate the perpetrators of the bomb threat against Saudi Airlines flight SV 5276 on the Jeddah-Jakarta route carrying hajj pilgrims because it was a form of terrorism.
This, he said, must be done even though the Saudi Airlines plane that made an emergency landing at Kualanamu Airport, Deli Serdang, has been declared safe and flown back to its destination airport, Soekarno Hatta Airport.
"Even though there was no bomb, it is already an act of terror. So we must thoroughly investigate who sent the email and we must pursue everything," said Habiburokhman at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday.
He said the National Police could work together with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to investigate the mastermind behind the bomb threats via electronic messages (emails) which were said to have been sent from India.
According to him, the act of terror in the form of a bomb explosion threat is something serious because it can bring danger to many people so it cannot be taken lightly.
"Also the follow-up from Bareskrim, I heard that the perpetrator was immediately detected if I'm not mistaken from India, but of course we have a working relationship with Interpol to follow up to the maximum. So it cannot be considered trivial," he said.
He also appreciated the quick response of the National Police through the North Sumatra Police Mobile Brigade Bomb Disposal Team (Jibom) in following up on the bomb explosion threat, as well as the security provided to the Hajj pilgrims by North Sumatra Police personnel.
"We appreciate the speed of the Police's response in the context of the emergency. I saw yesterday that our Brimob friends were very agile, they immediately checked everything, examined it in detail," he said.
Previously, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airport) Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta) Branch Office reported that 442 passengers on Saudi Airlines SV 5276 on the Jeddah-Jakarta route had been flown back to their destination airport.
