Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto proposed that prisoners who are useful, namely active and productive during their sentence, be given awards in the form of additional remissions as a form of motivation and recognition for their contribution.
"I also asked the Director General of Corrections to formulate additional remissions for inmates who make positive contributions to empowerment and development of potential in prisons and detention centers," said Agus as per an official statement received.
Agus appreciates the correctional inmates who not only serve their sentences, but also make real contributions to the development program and encourage the empowerment of fellow inmates.
According to him, the additional remission policy can be a guide for the heads of correctional technical implementation units (UPT) in providing fair and performance-based awards.
He also hopes that this effort will speed up the process of parole and conditional leave for inmates who show progress in the formation process.
In addition, Agus also emphasized the importance of the function of correctional centers (bapas) in supporting the social reintegration process.
He said that Bapas has a crucial role in guidance, community research, mentoring, and supervision of prisoners who are undergoing the process of assimilation in society.
The role of the Bapas, he added, will become increasingly central with the enactment of the new Criminal Code (KUHP) in early 2026.
