Indonesian Navy strengthens defense with unmanned anti-mine submarines

Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff (KSAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali wants to strengthen the main weapons system (alutsista) of patrol ships with unmanned mine-detecting submarines.

Ali said this when visiting one of Sangkuriang Internasional's booths at the Indo Defence 2025 defense equipment exhibition in Jakarta, Friday.

"If the patrol ship is either manned or unmanned, unmanned surface vehicle or unmanned underwater vehicle or autonomous," said Ali.

Ali also had time to see some of the products being sold in the booth. Ali's attention was drawn to one product, namely the Jalarov S11.

Jalarov S11 is an unmanned submarine that functions to detect active mines in the sea.

Not only that, the domestically made submarine can also function to detonate active mines in the sea.

Sangkuriang Internasional R&D Director Agung Aswamedha said the product is suitable to strengthen the Indonesian Navy. The unmanned ship can support the work of two German-made minehunting ships, KRI Pulau Fani-731 and KRI Pulau Fanildo-732.

"So, this is indeed needed for mission profile needs. Because we as a company group, we focus on supporting the Indonesian Navy," said Agung when met at the location.

Agung admitted that Ali was very interested in the product because of its effective function and because it was produced by a domestic company.

By being produced domestically, Agung continued, Ali does not need to worry about having difficulty finding spare parts when he wants to improve (upgrade) the underwater drone technology.

When asked how many units the Indonesian Navy will buy, Agung could not yet explain in detail to the media crew. He only confirmed that the procurement of the units is currently in process.
