The Press Council has decided that nine cyber media in the Riau Islands Province as the defendants apologize to the complainant Ady Indra Pawennari regarding violations of the Press Law and the Journalistic Code of Ethics (KEJ) committed by the cyber media.
Chairman of the Press Council, Komaruddin Hidayat, in his assessment stated that the respondent violated Articles 1 and 3 of the Journalistic Code of Ethics (KEJ) because it was not balanced, did not test the information (verification, confirmation, clarification) and mixed facts and judgmental opinions.
In addition, the respondent also did not comply with point 2 letters a and b, Press Council Regulation Number: 1/Peraturan-DP/III/2012 concerning Cyber Media Reporting Guidelines regarding news verification and balance, that every news item must go through verification, and news that is detrimental to other parties requires verification on the same news to meet the principles of accuracy and balance.
"Based on that assessment, we recommend that the respondent must serve the right of reply from the complainant proportionally along with an apology to the complainant and the reading public, no later than 2 x 24 hours after the right of reply is received. If the respondent does not load the right of reply within the time limit given, then the Complainant must report to the Press Council," said Komaruddin in a press statement received in Tanjungpinang, Kepri, Friday.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Press Council's Complaints and Ethics Enforcement Commission, Muhammad Jazuli, invited the complainant to convey to the public the results of the resolution of his complaint to the Press Council.
"The Press Council's decision was the result of mediation agreed upon by the complainant and the respondent," said Jazuli in his statement.
