The Ministry of Communication and Digital stated that the sanction in the form of a temporary suspension of the WorldID platform's operations is still in effect in Indonesia.
The temporary suspension of the WorldID platform operation was carried out because the developer was known to have collected biometric data from residents in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi areas.
" The suspension (suspension of operations) remains in effect ," said the Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Alexander Sabar, at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy Office, Central Jakarta, Monday.
"The sanctions are a preventive measure taken to protect the public from the risks of iris biometric data collection and are a follow-up to the clarification process and thorough examination," he said.
Kemkomdigi has conducted a thorough examination of the managers of the WorldID and WorldCoin platforms, namely Tools For Humanity (TFH) and its local partner, PT Sandina Abadi Nusantara (PT SAN).
Based on the results of clarification and thorough examination of iris biometric data collection activities through the WorldID platform, Alexander said that the platform manager was deemed to have not fully complied with the provisions in force in Indonesia.
According to Alexander, the results of the examination of TFH's documents, systems and working mechanisms show that there were violations of the provisions on personal data protection and the company's administrative obligations as a legitimate Electronic System Organizer (PSE).
Kemkomdigi also highlighted ethical violations in the data collection process, especially for vulnerable groups.
"These vulnerable groups include children and adolescents, the elderly, people with disabilities, people with low levels of digital literacy, and those in remote areas or with limited access to information," he said.
