Luis Palma's winning goal secured Honduras a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, after a dramatic 2-1 victory over Curacao in their final Group B match held in San Jose, California.
With this victory, Honduras is in second place in the final standings of Group B with six points, while Curacao is in third place with two points.
Palma's goal came in the 91st minute. After a series of aerial duels in the Curacao defense area, the ball fell to Carlos Pineda who then sent a through ball to Palma. Without tight guard, Palma fired a shot on the run that headed towards the top corner of the goal and was unable to be blocked by Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room.Previously, Honduras had taken the lead through Jorge Alvarez's goal in the 32nd minute. Alvarez took advantage of a gap outside the penalty box and unleashed a powerful shot that was unstoppable.
