Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid stated that Indonesia is ready to become a leader in digital transformation in Asia through the development of inclusive, ethical, and people's welfare-oriented artificial intelligence (AI).
Meutya said at the Asia Economic Summit that AI is no longer just a future technology, but a major driver of change in various sectors. With the right strategy and governance, Indonesia has the potential to become a major digital power in the region.
“This technology is no longer an option for Indonesia, we believe that Indonesia must also play a role, both through adaptation and leading the direction of digital transformation in our region,” said Meutya.
With its population strength and high technology adoption, Meutya is optimistic that Indonesia can be in a superior position to lead digital transformation in the Asian region through AI.
A McKinsey report said that 92 percent of Indonesia's skilled workforce has used generative AI. This figure exceeds the global average (75 percent) and Asia Pacific (80 percent).
"The progress of AI use in Indonesia is very significant. All of this shows that Indonesia has great potential. With continuous investment and development of local talent, AI can be a major driver of digital innovation, public innovation, and industrial progress," Meutya explained.
